Donate to New Audio Driver Development!
Buzzer Jerome Duval, BeOS driver writer extraordinaire, is creating a driver for the wonderful Echo Gina 3G card. BeDrivers.com reports the work has already advanced quite far, and at this point, Jerome needs the actual audio card so he can do testing and continued development. This is a tremendously important project, and very worthy of our support. I encourage everyone to join me in donating toward the $200 it will take for Jerome to purchase the card and complete the project. You can donate by clicking on the Paypal link on the BeDrivers home page.
Why is this so important?
I have maintained from the start, and have never wavered in my belief, that audio is the key to the future for BeOS. Support for terrific audio hardware helps to draw buzzers (BeOS audio lovers) to this platform from others, encourages developers, and makes life sweeter for BeOS users.
There's also an increasing need for new audio hardware support. The beloved SoundBlaster Live 16 card that has been a mainstay for years is no longer being made. Creative Labs markets a 24 bit version instead, and getting access to the necessary driver code seems like a very unlikely possibility.
When it comes to alternative operating systems, driver development is the life blood...it's the mother's milk...it's...it's...well, you get the idea. And when someone of Jerome's caliber is willing to dedicate himself to a project like this, we need to stand with him and support him with everything we've got!
So cummon gang, everybody kick-in what you can, and let's see this thing through. Nuff said...I'm heading over to make my donation right now.
